Smooth Spring Skiing on East, South, then West..

Smooth Spring Skiing on East, South, West slopes in the Northeren French Alps. North slopes still have good cold powder snow above 2500 metres, but still reporting big avalanches due to persistent instability.

These spring skiing aspects are good for spring snow between 2000 m to 2700 metres off piste skiing (higher too if you stay more south'ish and steep enough). In Val d'Isère today, we had to traverse a lot and 'sniff' for smooth snow, but we found it. See photos attached and on the HAT Facebook page.

To understand off-piste spring snow, see this coming week's snow report for a commentary on how to find good spring snow: click here.

The avalanche forecast is still reporting massive accidentally triggered avalanches on Northeast, North and Northwest facing slopes - be careful tomorrow and especially with this next snowfall coming early next week!!
