Off-piste Adventure, Fornet, Val d'Isere Today

Off-piste skiing today in the Fornet sector of Val d'Isère. Nice soft wind-packed powder in protected gullies. (click on title above to see written summary)

Snowpack seems stable (avalanche danger rating of 3 today for Savoie) signs of recent activity are mainly artificfilcial from blasting yesterday and today. Still heard of any accidental avalanche in the general area and steep slopes have been skied today..

.. Méteo France avalanche forecast is warning that there is still a significant chance of triggering a slab on North to East facing slopes and emphasizing that it could go as deep as 1 metre on North facing slopes (remember just about all the bad accidents this year have been on North'sih facing slopes).
