La Rosiere

La Rosiere Local Conditions 04/02/2012

With no guests in for a couple of days I organised to get out early and take a tour up our local peak Mont Valezan. It was bitterly cold with freezing cloud lingering around 1800 - 2000m. The walk up was not so cold as long as you were in the sun.

Off Piste Awarness evening in La Rosiere.

Mark Pirard the owner of Olympic Sport in La Rosiere hosted his annual off-piste awarness evening at his shop this evening.  It is an informal event for the seasonaires he works with, giving everyone a chance to meet each other and also get an introduction off-piste safety.  They introduced the 'security de piste' and explained what they do and how they can help, the ESF and the services they can offer and also HAT as a source of more information for those starting their off piste careers, or for those with some gaps in their knowledge.

Snow conditions in La Rosiere

With the storm passing and the sun out, it's time to make the most of the 1st 'blue bird powder day' of the season.

A lot of snow has fallen so we stuck to the HAT principles and stuck to the lower angled slopes under 25 degrees. Luckily that leaves plenty of skiing in the main bowl area of La Rosiere, but with temperatures rising and a lot of south facing slopes the snow quality did not last long and it began to get heavy.
