La Rosiere Local Conditions 04/02/2012

With no guests in for a couple of days I organised to get out early and take a tour up our local peak Mont Valezan. It was bitterly cold with freezing cloud lingering around 1800 - 2000m. The walk up was not so cold as long as you were in the sun.

Local conditions in La Rosiere

Last night (20th) saw over a 1m of snow fall in the village at La Rosiere along with high winds.

Ski tour of the Col de Belleface, La Rosiere. 18/01/12

A few of us have had or eye on this couloir for a few years now. No one ever seems to ski it. In fact the only records we can find of it being climbed in the winter relate back to the war.
So with the avalanche risk down to level 1, the ski patrol informed and one day left before the next storm rolls through it would have been wrong to do anything else with a day off.

Off Piste Awarness evening in La Rosiere.

Mark Pirard the owner of Olympic Sport in La Rosiere hosted his annual off-piste awarness evening at his shop this evening.  It is an informal event for the seasonaires he works with, giving everyone a chance to meet each other and also get an introduction off-piste safety.  They introduced the 'security de piste' and explained what they do and how they can help, the ESF and the services they can offer and also HAT as a source of more information for those starting their off piste careers, or for those with some gaps in their knowledge.

A timely reminder

A video to remind us all to take care when the storm passes.

Snow conditions in La Rosiere

With the storm passing and the sun out, it's time to make the most of the 1st 'blue bird powder day' of the season.

A lot of snow has fallen so we stuck to the HAT principles and stuck to the lower angled slopes under 25 degrees. Luckily that leaves plenty of skiing in the main bowl area of La Rosiere, but with temperatures rising and a lot of south facing slopes the snow quality did not last long and it began to get heavy.

A Good couple of days

I just wanted to follow up the last couple of days, as well as having a go a posting a message to the site while it is fresh in my mind. It was great to meet everyone and put faces to the names. I hope you all have a good season and if anyone is near La Rosiere and fancies a ski get in touch.
